A small, rustic, stylish wedding in the North Carolina mountains called for a small, rustic, stylish invitation. We wrote an entire book of love letters to celebrate the occasion. Ain't love grand? : )

Some logo work for your viewing pleasure. A good logo is truly a thing of beauty. Distilling a business down to a single, recognizable icon is one of the most difficult and rewarding projects a designer undertakes and one of the most valuable investments a company can make. Enjoy vol. 2.

I have worked with the good folks at Redo for a number of years. A few months ago they asked if I would be interested in helping them with a poster for a home tour / fundraiser for a local adoption charity. Since adoption and Redo are both near and dear to my heart, I said yes. This poster is the result.

The best part? Some of the funds being raised are going toward our Adoption! Awfully good and talented people at Redo. : )

I'm lucky to work with them.

BroadReach Healthcare is a company that is working to implement solutions to the world's biggest healthcare problems. Their mission is to improve the lives of people around the world using new, innovative approaches to healthcare that combine the best of the private sector and public health.

Creating the brochure was, primarily, finding a way to communicate quickly, easily and effectively the notion that in order to solve these big problems, you have to "Imagine it differently". You cannot continue to look at things the same way and achieve different results.

To illustrate the point, each spread in the brochure featured a die cut circle that revealed a small portion of a photo on the page underneath. When the reader turned the page, the full picture was revealed. The best part was learning what the reader assumed the photo was before they saw it. The brochure then became more than a brochure. It became a way to start the conversation.

In the spirit of the soon-to-be holidays, this weeks featured project is a Christmas card for the good people of Curo Financial Management. Because they are accountants and money-minded folks, it only seemed appropriate that their Christmas card reflect that.

The best part about this was the fact that when some of their clients received the card, they called because they thought they were getting a tax notice.

Even something as simple as a Christmas card can be special.

How do you celebrate the written word on a single poster? In this case, you don't. Something as awesome as the Southern Festival of Books needed a series of posters that quickly communicated the subject matter and showcased the diverse and powerful reach of the written word. While there are only 6 posters, there could have been 600. The emotional power of book covers is kind of amazing.

Where else could you have Fabio and Pooh working together?

The first and only time I've ever hand-lettered anything in Russian. My friend Brad was recently married in St. Petersburg and allowed me to be a part of the invitation. His now wife was very patient with me while I tried to figure out Russian letterforms. Let's just say the first few versions were far from correct.

On occasion, I like to show work that never saw the light of day. Not to mourn the death of, but rather to celebrate the short life of some good ideas. These book covers for Duct Tape Marketing fall into that category. While none of these ever ended up on your friendly bookstore shelf, they would have done a great job of catching your eye, had they made it that far. Ah, such is the life of design.

I didn't end up designing the final cover, but I certainly enjoyed working on these. Google the title and you can see what the final piece looked like.

A while back, Vanderbilt University Medical Center decided to bring in some of the smartest people on earth (at least in the medical field) to do twice monthly lectures on discovery and the future of medicine, The Discovery Lecture Series.

As it was unlikely that I would be asked to speak, my part was to create and identity and promotional system that would speak to the public and to the professionals and students whose work was being directly impacted by these speakers.

The finished system included logo, web, campus graphics, stage graphics, print ads, a brochure, posters and even light pole banners. Good times.

By the way, before this project, I had never heard of protein degradation.

The good folks at Words & Music do some mighty fine copyright administration. If you're worried that one of your hits is being illegally used for karoake, they can help.

GNG was tasked with creating an identity system that was simple and elegant, but reflected the smarts and personality of the company (and they have lots of both). The result was a logo that works upside down and right side up, a dang sassy stationery system that does the same, advertising, and a website.
